Like a pair of jeans that fit just right, or a haircut that flatters your face just so, the perfect dress is an elusive creature. Once in a while, though, a frock will come along and blow - well, the dresses off the competition, guaranteeing blanket coverage for the star who wears it, as well as for its designer.



When Victoria Beckham recently paraded for the crowds at her husband's inaugural LA Galaxy appearance, (left), she took the opportunity to wear the new Moon Dress by Roland Mouret - he of the famous Galaxy Dress - in Barbie-doll pink. 



Whether or not the Moon Dress will become as famous as its predecessor, only time will tell. In the meantime, we celebrate some of the dresses that did make fashion history.
