The so-called size-zero model debate shows no signs of going away. 



A report has been published by the independent Model Health Enquiry, set up by the BFC (British Fashion Council, organisers of London Fashion Week) as a response to the furore around skinny, underage models which kicked off in Madrid last September. 



The report, published this week, recommends the implementation of rules to improve the situation, such as establishing a healthy backstage environment at the shows, and developing an advice and support website for models, among other things. 



It also sensibly points out size 0 is 'an ambigous term', as 'A USA size 00 is very close to a UK size 6' - that is, a far cry from the shocking images created in the media. 



In response to the report, the Council's Chief Executive, Hilary Riva, said that there was 'several key recommendations...which are consistent with and support the BFC's already well-established policy on minimum model age, no smoking and no drug use at BFC run venues.' She went on, however, that they are 'requesting further input on the matter of model size and health before issuing recommendations as part of the fianl report.' 



Whatever the outcome, it looks like models under sixteen will not be allowed at shows, nor, it is safe to assume, will there be much backstage partying going on.
